J. B. Surls

  General Notes:

On his tombstone, "Surls" is spelled "Surles". Family members have told me that he did this on purpose...to be different.

• Nickname: Dick.

• Military Service. Served in the US Navy during WWII. Tombstone reads:
"Alabama
CPL US Navy
World War II"

I assume this to mean he served aboard the USS Alabama and Corporal was his rank(?)

• Miscellaneous: Name Spelling. I, Joseph B. Surls, Jr., have often heard it said that "Uncle Dick" spelled his name with an 'E' in Surls just to be different.

J. married Grace. (Grace died in 1964.)
