Larry M. Rowland, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at The Garden House in Anderson, SC.
Born December 4, 1939, in LaFrance, SC, he was the son of the late Vance and Tommie Wilson Rowland. Mr. Rowland graduated Pendleton High School and attended Anderson College and Clemson University. He later graduated Greenville Technical College. Mr. Rowland proudly served the community as a State Farm Insurance Agent for over 50 years.
He served as President of The South Carolina Football Officials Association and The South Carolina Basketball Officials Association. He was a Hall of Fame inductee of both associations, respectively. He served as an official for over twenty years on the collegiate and high school level. Mr. Rowland was a member of numerous civic organizations and a member of Concord Baptist Church.
Survivors include his children, Ken Rowland and Vance Rowland and his wife Renea, all of Anderson, SC; step-son, Jamie Barnes and Saundra Miles, both of Anderson, SC; brother, Marshall Rowland, of Pendleton, SC; and beloved grandchildren, Larry McKinley Rowland III, Harrison Rowland, Truman Rowland, St. Claire Rowland, Paige Barnes, Jacob Barnes, Anna Belle Barnes, and Erica Barnes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emilie Norris Rowland and brother, Louie Rowland.
The Funeral services will be Saturday, March 25, at 12 Noon in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Bob Marcaurelle and Reverend Mark Duncan. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will be at 20 Hidden Falls Drive, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, March 24, 2017, from 6 pm until 8 pm.
